November 13, 2023: New Moon in Scorpio
As I began writing this post earlier today, the new moon in Scorpio was already two degrees past making a conjunction with the sun and Mars. As I write this, the sun is still directly opposing Uranus in Taurus. The energy has felt so scattered today that I could barely focus on writing. It is only late in the day, when the moon has moved on to Sagittarius, that I am finally mustering up the fortitude and focus to get this Substack article out.
The sun is still at 21 degrees of Scorpio, and Mars is close by at 22 degrees. Uranus is directly opposite at 21 degrees Taurus, which is moving very slowly because it is retrograde and not moving at full speed.
I can't explain to you how potent this energy is. The moon sweeping through this Sun/Mars/Uranus configuration was like ringing a bell. The reverberation is still just as strong as it was earlier today, and probably will be for the next two days before the Sun moves forward enough to be moving out of orb of the opposition with Uranus.
The sun represents our soul, our core being and identity. Mars is our intention and the energy behind it, and the moon is our core emotional state. All three of these energies are conjoined right now in the sign of Scorpio, which is the sign of death, rebirth, and transformation. It is what needs to be eliminated so new life can grow.
The moon is traditionally known to struggle while in the sign of Scorpio. Its exaltation is in Taurus, its opposite sign. The last eclipse at the end of October was a bit of a reversal of this new moon. The sun and Mars were in Scorpio opposite the moon and Uranus in Taurus. The moon is exalted in Taurus, meaning the energy is a place where the lunar energies feel very comfortable. Taurus is physical and Venusian. It rules good food, music, beauty, and sensuality.
Scorpio is all about what needs to be eliminated. It shows us what is dying or dead and needs to be ripped out by the roots so that new growth can come up. It is an emotional process and certainly not a comfortable one. It's the process of perceiving that something needs to be eliminated, and really feeling that it needs to. Like I said, uncomfortable.
In order to achieve the divine inspiration from the last eclipse, there are things in our lives that need to change. As we all know so well, change comes from within.
Fortunately, Uranus is here to help us. Uranus teaches us that change can happen in an instant, like a lightning bolt straight out of the heavens. It comes in thought forms that travel very quickly and spur a chain of events until the energy is grounded. I can't think of a better sign for grounding energy than Taurus. Taurus' whole "thing" is being grounded and grounding everyone around them.
There is another aspect in this new moon chart that I have not seen many astrologers talk about, which is the pretty tight trine this new moon/Mars conjunction is making to Neptune in the third decans of Pisces. Neptune is simultaneously making a supportive sextile to Uranus as well.
Maybe this is why I had trouble focusing enough today to get this article written. I noticed a tendency to listen to music and get lost in the good memories it invokes. Today I thought a lot about the years I spent living in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
Now that I look at the chart for a third time, I just noticed that Pluto in late Capricorn is also aspecting the sun, moon and Mars conjunction with a supportive sextile and forming a trine with Uranus in Taurus. This is extremely helpful.
Pluto just recently went direct after retrograding back into Capricorn after dipping its toe into Aquarius earlier this year. Pluto is helping us with our inevitable transformation. What must die is in the process of doing so, and Neptune is here to make it all bearable. Neptune injects a dream-like layer over harsh reality, giving us inspiration through divine visions and guidance. It's pure compassion for self and others. Creating heaven on Earth would be impossible without that, now wouldn't it?
